The beaches
One of the top attractions of Barcelona are its city beaches.
Since the Olympic games of 1992 Barcelona started an important transormations recovering its 4.5 km of seaboard stretching along the entire coastal border of the city.
In few minutes from every point of the city you can reach one of the many beaches, San Sebastià, Barceloneta, Nova Icària, Bogatell, Mar Bella or Nova Mar Bella that welcome every year around 7 million people.
There are as well, spaces destined for sports outdoor and paths that give easy access to physically disabled people, areas for skating, volleyball and football courts, playgrounds for children and ping-pong tables.
The beach season is Barcelona oficially starts in June, on the night of Sant Joan, a lively night of bonfires, fireworks and parties on the beach.
The long bathing season thou is long and completed by all the necessary equipment and services: lifeguards, red cross, showers and information points are all over the area and open until the middle of October.
Swimming: Swimming and bathing in Barcelona is very safe and there are no dangerous currents, you must be paying attention thou to the flags shown as there some "jellyfish" warning flags sometimes during the hottest months of the year.
Nudism: The Mar Bella beach, is the official city nudist/naturist beach, although nudism it is not compulsory.
Chiringuitos and Parties on the beach in Barcelona: "chiringuitos" are bars on the beach serving snacks or light meals while listening to the sound of chill-out music during the afternoon.
In the evening the Dj will raise the tone of the music and let the party start!
Public Transport: The jorney to the beaches by public transport is very easy from any point of the city just by taking a ride onto the yellow metro line L4 to any stop after Barceloneta and walking 200 metres in the direction of the sea.
Also, each one of the 6 beaches of Barcelona has zones of parking, and bicycles paths.
